It's My Birthday!

Today's my birthday. I'm 34 years old. I'm still sick so I probably won't be celebrating until next week but when I do, I'm having a delicious chocolate cake.:-)

Make sure you guys drop by on Monday, February 1st. The lovely Kaye Manro is going to be dropping by and you won't want to miss it. Have a good weekend everyone.

Welcome Aline de Chevigny!

Today we have the amazing Aline de Chevigny. What's even better, it's her birthday.:-)

1: First off, happy birthday. Any plans for celebrating?

Yep, were doing the pub crawl. One pub for each year I’ve been legal to drink and we’re starting at the same spot we started at 18 years ago LOL

Should be a trip down memory lane. **grin**

2: What inspired you to first begin writing?

Living away from all my family and friends. Finding LUNA and talking to a dozen amazing writers on a daily basis, several bad storylines with Heroines that were too stupid to live. A challenge to prove I could do better and a dare to submit it. When your writing idol tells you to go for it, you really can’t say no LOL

3: What are you currently working on?

A winter story about a girl who follows some guy to the frozen North and regrets every second of the decision until she gets snowed in and the local mayor/pilot takes her in.
It’s part of the Natalia series at RRP.

And lots of edits LOL

4: What do you for fun and relaxation when not writing?

Sleep, read, shop, play Facebook’s Farmville and Country life and visit my family.

5: Which authors do you enjoy reading?

OOo that’s easy, good ones. Hehehee
Okay seriously, Mercedes Lackey, Katie MacAlister, Dean Koontz, Sean Costello, Suzanne Enoch and Lisa Kleypas to name a few.

6: What are you currently reading?

Ministry of the Environment COA’s mostly, LOL
But for fun, I have several books waiting for me to pick them up. Uhmmm, lets see if I remember them, Sean Costello’s Here After. (All his proceeds are going to charity and he a Canadian doctor from my home town)

7: Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Write what you know, don’t stop to edit or you’ll fall prey to the chapter 3 curse and never give up. Find yourself one person who believes in you and go to them when you’re ready to call it quits. Critique partners are great when you start out, but critique groups are better for when people start getting published. More people means someone should have time to look over your book.

8: If you could meet anyone in the world, who would you most like to meet?

RDA (or for non Jack or MacGyver fans) Richard Dean Anderson. His character inspired me to become a chemist. LOL Crazy but true.

9: What would you most like people to know about you?

I’m a solitary person by nature. Big crowd make me nervous and I tend to blend into the background, unless I have a job to do and then well I’m quite uhm fearless.
I like being alone…most of the time LOL. I’d love to retire to a working farm, something small, one, a few chickens maybe a horse or two. Who knows anything is possible.

10: On March 25th, you have a new book coming out called Lifemates, part of the Wet & Wild series. What was your inspiration for writing it?

It was a part dare, part what unique animal could I make into a believable shifter. Oh and it had to be a predominantly Canadian animal, hence the Beaver Shifter was born or Castoridae to be exact. It was sort of a no brainer considering that the beaver is our provincial animal and he resides on our nickel LOL.

Lifemates: Wet and Wild Series
Benton Chaser was the black beaver of his clan. Seeing the pain and suffering his father experienced when his mother was killed. He refused to accept the laws of the clan and find his one true mate. Preferring exiles to the pain he knew was in store if he gave in and the revenge he got seducing the wives of the men who ripped his family apart.
Until he met a feisty Widow name River Maples, who gave the wild animal on her property sanctuary and greeted all men with the barrel of her shot gun. He’d tried everything he could think of to approach her and could only succeed in his were-beaver form. Yet he can’t deny the pull he feels towards her, could she be the one thing he’d been running away from for the past hundred years?

Coming Soon Lifemates: Wet and Wild Series

Excerpt :
He heard footsteps and realized he had nowhere to hide. He forced his body to shift back to his animal form knowing it would cost him later. Too many shifts in too short a time span, could be dangerous to his health. Since he had no choice he decided to have a little fun with his intruder before he left on his trip.
He set up the scene perfectly, so that when his intruder entered his little cove all they would see was him coming out of the water naked. He dove into the water and waited for his intruder to appear. He waited under the water, using his enhanced animal vision then watched as the widow entered the cove, a blanket and picnic basket over one arm and her trusty shot gun over the other.
When she started to unbutton her dress for a swim he thought he’d died and gone to heaven. She looked even more alluring and delicious without her clothing. The sexual excitement he felt at seeing her affected his control over his shifting abilities. Her shock at seeing a naked man rising out of the water matched his at the inability to control his form. Nothing like this had ever happened to him before, at least not since he’d hit puberty and had gained his hard won control over his abilities.
He had to admit that in this instance he was totally in the wrong, this was her cove after all. He’d taken advantage of the safety she provided him here, along with the fact that she never once came out here. It didn’t hurt that the trappers were well aware that she had a habit of shooting first and asking questions later when she caught them on her land.
He recovered more quickly than she did thank heavens, or he’d be a dead were now. “A million apologies good miss, I thought this cove was abandoned.” He saw the appreciation and quick flash of desire flash through her eyes when she looked him over. He’d have thought the look was imagined if a bright red blush hadn’t appeared to cover her cheeks in embarrassment at being caught looking.
“Are you a trapper?”
Of all the questions for her to ask him, he never expected that one. “Why no miss, I was merely traveling through on my way to…” She cut him off mid sentence, pulling a grin from his lips.
“It’s Mrs, and I don’t allow hunting on my lands either!”
His respect for her rose another notch, even half naked she stood her ground against him. “Is fishing allowed?” His grin returned when he saw her start of surprise.
“Why yes it is…” She looked at him with confusion evident in her eyes. “I would never go against the word of such a beautiful woman as yourself, especially when she has a gun so close at hand.” Her blush deepened, but the shotgun never wavered. Good girl. Make me earn your trust.

BTR RRP

Red Rose authors are on the air. Have you ever heard of Blog Talk Radio? Some notable people, including Barack Obama have been interviewed on it and now Red Rose has it's own show. Every Sunday between 2 and 3 p.m. EST. the two fabulous hosts of BTR RRP have a different Red Rose author on talking about everything from their writing to just gabbing. Sometimes they even double up and have two.

This Sunday, the 24th they'll have Linda Mooney on and next Sunday, the 31st their guest is Angela Kay Austin who was here on my blog January 1st. If you'd like to chat with the authors you can either go to the BTR RRP chat room or you can call in the show directly. You can either just listen in or be put in the queue to talk with the author and the hosts. The phone number is 917-889-3332. We'd all love to hear from you. I will be interviewed on BTR March 7th, just before my release date.

Early Crystal!

Okay everyone who has read the books by Charlaine Harris that is the basis of the HBO show True Blood knows that we don't meet Crystal until book 4. For those of you who haven't read the books, Crystal is the selfish were-panther that Jason, Sookie's brother gets involved with. It's kind of ironic that he ends up marrying a woman just like himself.:-)

Anyway, each season of the show True Blood is based on a book. Season one covered book one and season 2 covered book 2. Season 3, based on book 3 called Club Dead will be starting in June. Again, in the books we don't meet Crystal until book 4. But Alan Ball is introducing her character in season 3. I have no idea if she's the new love interest for Jason in season 3 that Alan has mentioned or if she'll start off with someone else. Won't know that until we get to meet her in the show.

But, for those of you wondering who will play Crystal, Alan Ball has cast Lindsay Pulsipher. The picture I have put up is of her. So now we meet Crystal. Early admittedly, but at least we know who's gonna play her. By the way I have to give credit to my Goodreads buddy Leah for the heads-up on this.

Sad Day For Literature

Robert Parker, the author said to be responsible for bringing back the gritty crime novel has passed away. He was 77. Robert Parker was a prolific writer and has written over 60 novels including his most famous Spenser series on which the Robert Urich series Spenser For Hire was based. A spokeman for his publishing house, Penguin Group has confirmed Parker's death but as yet has made no further statement.

Robert Parker was a wonderful writer and will be missed. In recent years, another of his characters has made it on to tv in a series of made-for-tv movies with Tom Selleck. The character of Jesse Stone has been seeing increased popularity and is in fact the favorite of my mother.

So, goodbye Robert Parker and thank you for the wonderful stories.

Kreativ Blog Award!

I am so excited. My friend Kaye Manro nominated me for a Kreativ Blog award. Thank you so much I'm honored. Now, the terms of the award say I have to tell you guys 7 things about myself that no one knows and then nominate 7 other blogs for the award. So here goes my list of 7 things about me:

2: I'm about to turn 34 and still watch my favorite cartoon, Scooby Doo.

3: I used to actually be a good singer and competed in state competitions. Note the used to part though.:-)

4: I live for chocolate. Anything chocolate, as long as it doesn't have coconut will be eaten by me.

5: I love all 3 Lord Of The Rings movies but actually despise the books.

6: If you put something back where it's actually supposed to be, I can NEVER find it.

7: I'm part Cherokee and look it.

Ok that's 7 things about me.:-) Now my 7 nominees for the Kreativ Blog award. They are:

That's everyone. If you'd like to accept the nomination than copy the picture of the award and post on your blog about 7 things no one knows about you. Then nominate 7 other blogs for the award. Don't worry, it won't bother me if you don't accept the award. Thanks again to Kaye Manro for this. It was really sweet.:-)

Great News For A Friend!

I am so pleased to announce that a dear author friend of mine, Kaye Manro has gotten her release date for her first novel with Red Rose. Forbidden Love will be released May 20, 2010! Congrats Kaye and I can't wait to see your cover when you get it. For the rest of you, here's a brief blurb of what Forbidden Love is about:

They are Galaxies apart so different yet so much alike…
Dr. Maya Belle knows reptiles. While she is in the desert researching habitats, a sudden burst of sand engulfs her. She can't believe what stumbles out of a massive dune.
While on a survey mission over the planet Terrain, T'Kon crashes his spacecraft near Maya's desert home. He cannot remain on this primitive warring planet for long. He must repair his craft and leave as quickly as he came.
When lust stirs between them a sultry unbidden passion hotter than the desert sands seizes them, and changes everything. Will Maya abandon her world for her alien lover? Or will T'Kon set forth without her forsaking their powerful forbidden love?

I'm looking forward to reading this. And don't forget, Kaye's gonna be stopping by February 1st. Congrats on the release date Kaye! I am so happy for you.

Today's Guest: Jane Beckenham!

TGIF everyone. And to help you get your weekend off to a great start we have with us award winning author Jane Beckenham! And stay tuned because at the end Jane is going to be having a contest for a special prize.

1: Thank you and welcome Jane. It’s an honor to have you. I think what we’d all like to know is when you began writing in the first place?

Oh, gosh, it seems so long ago now. But in fact only 10 years ago. We had purchased our first home PC and I am a nut about decorating and was chatting on line to a fellow ‘deco nutter’ –who was also a writer. She goaded me into trying. I did, and haven’t stopped. But friends now say that I had talked about writing years ago, but I don’t remember that!

2: What was your inspiration to write?

I think it was because I read so much. Through my youth and teenage years I spent months in hospital and of course with not much else to do, would read voraciously – 5 books in 3 days sort of thing. Then I found category romances. My kids would laugh as I came home with 10-20 books at a time from the library. But since I’ve been writing, I found out that my uncle was a published author and my mother wrote too.

3: Are you currently working on anything?

When am I not? Yes I have several completed manuscripts that need revising, plus I’m into deep revisions with a current contemporary. I also have another Regency up to chapter 3 stage, but really I haven’t touched it in a while – smack my hand. I need to get back to it.

4: What do you for fun and relaxation when you are not writing?

This is something I have to work hard at. Stopping doesn’t come easy to me. I do love reading decorating magazines and can while a few hours on the couch reading those, plus a bubble bath is a joy. My husband is into vintage cars and we do car runs with a group of enthusiasts most months. Excerise...well I’m trying to get back into it. My physio kinda persuaded me when he asked ‘what quality of life (future) did I want?’ – this was after being hospitalized for the 3rd time with a back injury! So now I hit the exercise bike daily – though I wouldn’t call that relaxing.

5: What kind of stories do you enjoy reading?

I love time travel romances, historicals, category.

6: Who are some of your favorite authors to read?

Sandra Hill for her humor and her spunky heroes, plus love her time travel series, and Sophia James (M&B Historicals) for her Regency and Medievals.

7: If you could meet anyone, whom would you want to meet?

I think Florence Nightingale (nurse) to really find out how tough she was to stand up to the male bastion in the medical field in those days. Cleopatra too would be interesting, another strong woman.

8: What’s the one place on Earth you’d most like to take a vacation to?

New York – to go shopping. But I’d go back to Israel in a second. Lived there years ago and absolutely adore the history of the country. We spent 7 weeks traveling in the USA this year, and loved the diversity of it all. The hugeness.

9: Is there anything else about you that you’d like people to know?

Oh gosh, um...that I don’t practice all the sex scenes that I write, unfortunately. That if they discovered a safe way to time travel, I’d be first in line.

10: You have two titles that will soon be released. Can you tell us a little bit about A Traitor’s Heart?

This is my first Regency and is being next year with Red Rose Publishing with whom I already have some wonderful titles. It’s the story of a young woman who must choose between her brother’s life or treason and in the process betraying a man she has come to love. High stakes, which is a test of whether love can survive two socially different worlds.

Excerpt – A TRAITOR’S HEART
“Scrub her till the stench of the slums is erased.”
Lord Lyndsay’s cutting words rang a relentless tirade inside Catriona Fraser’s brain; a constant and biting reminder of the reality of her heritage.
She held no illusions.
She was a complete fake. Yet somehow she had managed to fool everyone these past few days.
Now, as another night heralded another ball, with ever more strangers who held her with unmistakable censure, Cat wasn’t convinced she was up to the charade.
Yet, she had no choice. It was do...or die.
Drawing level with at the head of the grand staircase, her gloved hand gripped the mahogany handrail with a deathly intensity. A hush settled over the sea of faces below.
Every manner of luxury and titled wealth filled the elegant ballroom. Chandeliers glittered with the flicker of a thousand burning candles, the smoky haze misting across the domed ceiling. The flushed faces of the overly perfumed and bejeweled matrons, whose beady eyes never left their protégées unless it was to survey the latest young buck to hit the Ton, turned in a unified wave in her direction.
Whispers.
Whispers, about her.
The hussy. Who was she? Where had she come from?
Their whispered questions and speculation, bestowed in her a sense of power. Tonight, she reveled in that power.
A tempered smile curved the corners of Cat's glossed mouth and she lifted her chin a fraction higher. She could, and would, do this.
“Lady Fraser, can I help you?"
The richly textured male voice jolted Cat back to reality. She lifted her gaze from the melee of the Duchess of Alderman's annual ball, to fall on a black-suited chest.
A very broad, strong, muscled chest.
The man bowed. "The Countess of Holesworth, I presume?"
Cat’s breath stilled and her mouth felt suddenly very dry. She wiped the tip of her tongue across her parted lips, aware of his interested dark gaze as she did so. “You know my name?"
His mouth curved slightly on one side, eyes twinkling with the glitter of mischief. “Everyone knows you, Madame.”
Cat clutched her reticule, and struggled to find her voice.
The game had begun.

11: And what is In Love With The Sheikh about?

This is another of my contemporary sheikh stories. I love those dark eyed men, who need a good woman to set them right, pull them down from their high perches and love them.
I love setting up imaginary kingdoms, thinking what I can create to make them unique and beautiful. Lots of fun.
My heroine Lilly is a fake. Abandon as a baby she has no idea who she is so has made up her past, even her name. But when she outbids Sheikh Kalim Raschid for an antique brooch, believing it has a link to that unknown past, her triumph is short lived. She can’t honor her bid. Accepting an offer to solve her financial embarrassment, Lilly discovers Kalim has every material thing yet spurns what she most desires. Love. Family. A chance to belong.
But for a man born to be king, Kalim now must choose his future, and whether he can create a world where both can accept their pasts..
.

As I write this blog, I’m so excited, I have just received a four star review for my December release – TO KISS AN ANGEL.

An Awesome Story!

I just read a fantastic story by Adelle Laudan called Triad Of Hope. It was SENSATIONAL. I enjoyed every minute of it. Here's a brief blurb:

Juliana, Rosa, and Shani--three very different women with a common bond: all are on a journey of healing, self-discovery, and hope. Join them as they conquer fears, forgive past wrongs, and come to terms with their inner selves. Do difficulties in life really make one stronger? Can a shattered heart ever heal enough to love again? When one's life seems hopeless, what lengths will one go to find hope?

This is truly an inspiring tale of self-discovery and overcoming life's many difficult challenges. Triad Of Hope is an amazing story and it's available now from Red Rose Publishing. Adelle Laudan is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. If you'd like to know more about her and her works, click on the link I have up for her. This story is a great read.

Coming Soon Announcement!

I'm pleased to finally be able to tell you guys about a new series that RRP has contracted. It's called Gods At Work and book one has been contracted and will be released soon. As soon as I have the actual release date I'll post it. Book one is called Working Under Covers and here's a brief blurb.

The economic crunch is affecting everyone nowadays, even the Gods of Mt. Olympus. Tributes are way down and Zeus isn't happy. He decrees that each and every god must go out into the mortal realm and get jobs.

Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty decides to set up shop in Los Angeles, California. She opens her own Internet Dating service called Venus Connections and hides her true identity by taking on the name Ariel Schell.

Jordan Cade, retired cop turned private investigator is roped by his former boss into tackling one last undercover assignment. Three women have gone missing and the only thing that links them is an Internet dating service called Venus Connections.

All Jordan wants is to find the missing women. All Aphrodite wants is to earn a living. But the Fates have other plans. Now a mortal man and an immortal Goddess must overcome their vast differences. A little under the covers work might be needed.

I am so loving this series. It's a lot of fun. I should have a cover soon and as soon as I do I'll post it as well. Working Under Covers is book one in a whole new series and will be coming soon. Thank you Red Rose for your continued support of my writing. I am so grateful.

Welcome Angela Kay Austin!

Hello and Happy New Year everyone. It's officially 2010 and I wish you all the best in the coming year. This year is especially exciting for me because we today kick off the first of our author interviews. Joining me today is fellow Red Rose author Angela Kay Austin. And stick around because at the end she's going to help kick off the new year right by giving away a prize. So welcome Angela and Happy New Year. Thanks for being here and being my first guest.:-)

1: When did you first begin writing? When I purchased my first pink and white diary…maybe, 10, and immediately filled it with poems in ode to my secret crush at the time.

2: What inspired you to write? When I was in middle school, we’d have these R.I.F.—Reading is Fundamental, events. They’d line books up on tables in the library, and we’d get the chance to walk through, and pick out what we liked. I picked up Judy Blume’s Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret?

The book spoke to me. Just as Margaret experienced confusion, so did I as a young African-American girl bused out her neighborhood to one so different from her for school.

By the time I’d finished the book, although, I still had to learn how to ‘fit’ in, I had a new passion, writing. I wanted to be able to tell stories that made people think, cry, or laugh. I wanted to make them feel.

3: What are you currently working on? I’m working on a few different Inter-racial Contemporary Romances, as well as, a mainstream fiction piece. I’m always writing poetry, but I haven’t decided what to do with it, yet. Maybe one day, you’ll see a book of poems, too.

4: What do you for fun and relaxation when not writing? Honestly, writing is my relaxation. Since the time of that first diary, I’ve written poetry as a form of self-expression. It has always allowed me to pour whatever is inside of me onto paper, and understand myself better.

Now, when I want to escape everything, I watch movies. I have to admit that my guilty pleasure is SyFy TV. The movies are so campy and fun, how can you not laugh and forget everything.

Music is another love. I’ve played the clarinet and saxophone forever.

5: Which authors do you like to read? You know it depends. Lately, I’ve been reading everything Jeanine Frost has. She simply can’t write fast enough for me. Charlaine Harris and the Sookie Stackhouse Novels are awesome. Karen Marie Moning’s books are scattered about my house, too.

Authors of other genres that line my bookshelves are: Toni Morrison, Wally Lamb, Barbara Kingsoliver, Jane Green, Zora Neale Hurston, and Terry McMillan among others.

6: What, if anything, are you currently reading? I just finished Jeanine Frost’s Destined for an Early Grave, and I look forward to First Drop of Crimson, her first spinoff.

7: Do you have any tips for aspiring authors? The only advice I think I could offer is just not to give up. Explore all opportunities. Tell everyone about your desire to write. I can’t tell you how many times my friends will come to me, and say, “Hey Angela, I heard about…” They have been one of my best resources.

8: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Venice, Italy. I loved Rome: food, countryside, shopping, and of course the men. But I didn’t get to visit Venice on my last trip. When I go back…it’ll be all Venice.

9: Promotion time. Tell us about your upcoming release. What is Love’s Chance about? I set Love’s Chance in PA, a place I lived for a few years. The quaint town reminded me of something from years past, but the people were quite progressive, an odd combination which provided for a great backdrop.

Blurb: To pay back her parents and prevent the loss of their family business, Sinclair Mosley leaves her family and friends behind. Pennsylvania doesn’t welcome her with open arms, but Chance O’Malley does. At the risk of losing everything that brought her to Pennsylvania, including her family’s restaurant, Sinclair must decide if she’s willing to take a chance on love.

Ok it's prize time. Angela Kay Austin is giving away a free download copy of her upcoming release, Love's Chance. The winner will receive their free copy just before it's release date of February 11th. Here's how you can enter for your chance to win. To win Love's Chance be the first person to answer three questions correctly on Angela's website. The questions are: What Inspired Angela to write? What state is Love's Chance set in? And finally, what is Angela's guilty pleasure? Just click on this banner to go Angela's website and post your answers on her blog page. Good luck.:-)
